To relate two contentlets, a relationship between two Content Types must first be created by a dotCMS Content Architect or Webmaster administering your website. For more information, please see the documentation on Relationships.
If a relationship between Content Types has been established, a Relationships tab will appear at the top of the Content when it is edited/created as shown in the image below.
The Relationships tab displays all related Content and the “Relate” button allows new relationships to be created.
A flag will be displayed for each language available. If the content is published (live), the flag will have a green border, if it's unpublished (working), it will have a red border. If the content is not available in the given language the flag will display disabled in gray color.
Relationships can be removed by clicking on the “X” button. Please note that removing a Related piece of Content using the “X” button does not remove Content from dotCMS, but simply removes the relationship between the two pieces of Content.
After clicking on the “Relate” button, use the search manager to find the Content, select it and click on Relate. On this screen you can select multiple pieces of content to be related at the same time.
After relating content, child content can be re-ordered (if necessary) by dragging and dropping the content in the desired order that you would like related child content to display. Make sure to Save your changes after re-ordering the child content. Only child content can be drag-and-drop re-ordered
Relationship fields can also be added to Content Types so that content contributors can relate content without clicking on a relationships tab. The image below shows a relationships field that has been added to a Content Type.
