documentation for the dotCMS Content Management System

Pages in dotCMS utilize Templates that provide the layout and design for the Page. Pages can have ANY extension (including NO extension), can have different [language versions], and can support customized page properties by modifying the Page Content Type.

When a new Page is created a Template must be chosen for that Page. The Template defines the Page layout and the containers that are used to place content on the Page. You may only have one active Template for a page at any given time, for all language versions of the Page.

A variety of tools are made available to the creators of Pages that allow the editing and previewing of changes made to a Page before making those additions or changes “live” on a website.

The easiest way to manage Pages — including URL-mapped content — is through the Pages Tool introduced in dotCMS 23.06.
