The problem with headless and hybrid-headless CMS’
The problem with many headless and hybrid-headless CMS platforms is they do not provide a consistent and robust visual editing and visual building experience across all channels built on a variety of technologies. This makes life difficult for developers building and maintaining headless apps, for content teams that need to manage content for various front end experiences, and for devops teams that need to deploy front end applications to an array of on-premise and cloud infrastructures.
Universal CMS: The next era of content management
You will see in our roadmap that at dotCMS we are focused on developers, content teams, and devops teams alike. We are driven to make it easy for developers to provide content teams a consistent, rich visual editing and visual building experience for any front end built on any technology, whether that’s mobile applications, digital signage, set top boxes, or virtual and augmented reality, and deploy those experiences on any infrastructure.
Universally editable - Omnichannel and multimodal
Content teams can edit in context, content destined for any channel.
Universally generatable - Any content, any component
Content teams can generate any content, any component, for any type of experience.
Universally developable - Any framework, any tech
Developer teams can bring any stack, any tech, any framework.
Universally deployable - Any infrastructure
Developer teams can use any infrastructure to host their stack.
2025 Roadmap Items for Developers
Import and Export REST APIs allow large scale content migrations between environments and from other platforms.
SDK: UVE Enhancements streamline and simplify the javaScript SDK, improving the developer experience when using the SDK and helping them get up and running more quickly.
PHP, .Net, and React Native SDKs help developers get up and running easily, facilitating integration with dotCMS, rendering in UVE and enabling tools like A/B testing, Analytics, and Time Machine for their headless apps.
dotCLI Import/Export Content brings robust content migration capabilities to our command line interface, enabling content import and export from/to csv and other types of files and systems as well as content migration between dotCMS instances.
2025 Roadmap Items for Content Teams
UVE Future Time Machine lets content teams preview pages as they will appear on any future date, eliminating uncertainty by viewing scheduled content changes in context.
Content Analytics: Dynamic Analytics Displays enables recording and retrieval of information about content usage, such as how often content is viewed or clicked on. We are also expanding support for Experiments (A/B testing) to all data centers worldwide.
Content Edit Enhancements: We’re redesigning our edit content screen to improve the usability, add capabilities, and make tools and Workflow actions easier to access and use.
dotAI Copilot Content Search, Reusable Permissioned Dynamic Prompts, and Content Edit Enhancements all show our heavy investment in AI enabled features throughout dotCMS, enabling powerful content search in the back end, widening the list of supported AI vendors, giving customers more control over prompts, and delivering a more ubiquitous and consistent use of AI during content creation and edit.
The dotCMS Redesign will greatly improve the usability of our back end application, making it more intuitive and consistent, helping content teams get content to market faster.
Multi-value Image Fields streamline managing content with multiple images like banners, blogs, and documentation.
Merging Image, File, Binary Fields will simplify content architecting and management. No more decisions about what field type to use in different situations!
Content Type Field Sets lets users define sets of fields (like address) that can be reused in various content types, making it easier to manage sets of fields consistently throughout dotCMS.
2025 Roadmap Items for both Developers and Content Teams
