HTML pages in the dotCMS utilize Templates that provide the layout and design for the page.  When a new HTML page is created a Template must be chosen for that HTML page.  The Template defines the HTML page layout and the containers that we used to place content on the HTML page.  A variety of tools are made available to the creators of HTML pages that allow the editing and previewing of changes made to a page before making those additions or changes "live" on a website.  The following sections detail all the webpage creation/management tools made available to webpage creators in the dotCMS.

Edit, Preview, and Live modes provided by dotCMS are the three different ways to examine/preview a webpage while adding content, assigning tasks, or making modifications to the page.  Listed below is a basic description of the functionality of these three page views and the subsequent documentation pages describe their detailed functionality at length.

• Edit Mode: In Edit mode the draft or "working" version of the page is displayed to the user and none of these changes will affect the Live html page until the page is published
• Preview Mode: After making modifications to the page, click on Preview mode to see what those changes will look like (without the dotCMS tooling buttons), before you publish the page. 
• Live Mode: Shows only the content placed on the page as of the last time the page was published.
