The development section explains how to setup your development environment to extend dotCMS.  The recommended way to extend dotCMS is through the use of plugins, which are described in the plugin section.  While not strictly necessary, we recommend that you use an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) while you develop.  We provide specific instructions on how to get started with dotCMS in Eclipse, but you can use other IDEs to suit your preference.
